How these numbers are made

Sourcing

Prices are taken from official vendor pricing pages and API documentation only — OpenAI's platform pricing for Sora 2, Google's Vertex AI pricing for Veo 3.1, Runway's developer portal for credit rates, Kling's membership plans, and ByteDance's Volcengine documentation for Seedance. Reseller and aggregator prices are noted separately where relevant, never mixed into the base rates.

Conversion

Everything is converted to US dollars per second of generated video at each model's base tier. Credit systems convert as credits-per-second × price-per-credit. Subscription plans convert as monthly fee ÷ seconds the included credits buy in standard mode — clearly labeled as effective rates, since real burn varies with mode and resolution.

The retry multiplier

The ×1.5 default in the calculator reflects the widely reported experience that professional workflows keep roughly one of every 1.5–3 generations. It's a floor, not a ceiling: demanding shots (faces, hands, on-screen text, precise physics) run higher. You can switch it off in the calculator to see raw list prices.

Update cadence

Prices were last verified in July 2026. This market reprices frequently — vendors cut rates, retire models, and change credit burn without notice. Every page carries its verification date, and anything older than 60 days should be treated as stale. Spotted a price that changed? The fastest fix is telling us.
